Kite feeding takes place daily around 3.00PM in the Summer and 2.00pm in the Winter (see Planning Your Visit for Summer / Winter dates) The Kites can be seen from the Visitor Centre, and there is an excellent observation area where you can take photographs or use binoculars.
There are many excellent viewing positions around the lake, and an enclosed hide where you can view the birds in their natural environment at any time.
As well as Kites, you may also see Buzzards, and other birds. There are also a number of bird feeders for the small birds placed around the Visitor Centre.
A video camera located near to the lake provides a live video link to the Visitor Centre, showing the birds close up! The camera is usually in operation.
Who feeds the Kites?
The Kite Feeding programme is operated by Ceredig and Janet Morgan. It was started in 1998 to supplement the bird's natural food, at time when the Kite numbers were far fewer than today. However, the Kites are still fed every day of the year. Because of this, the Visitor Centre was nominated for, and received, the Ceredigion Business Award 2006.
